The children’s recovery unit in Olongapo is the hub of the ministry. It is 24 hour care facility for sick and dying children. A place to recover! We have many types of children here ranging from premmies, newborns to older teens! We have malnourished children, post surgical kids, children who have been abandoned to the social services or local hospital but are sick. We will consider any child who needs our help as long as they are poor, sick and in need of the help we can offer. Its a demanding missions job for the staff because many of the children stay for long periods of time and its always difficult to say goodbye. Its even more difficult when they die and go home to be with The Lord. Our hearts break often but we remind ourselves that they are no longer suffering. We then focus on being a comfort and support to the families left behind.
Daily routines here at CRU include childcare, household chores and activities for the children. Everyone does a little of each and so the team operates well together. There’s never a dull moment with so many children around…
Cru Olongapo has been operational since 2004! Its two big 2 story houses knocked into one but it isnt purpose built so we have problems sometimes especially when we have kids with disabilities come to stay. We are praying for a purpose built place someday that will allow us to have a space for infectious kids or “isolation”, kids who need to be kept clean or “reverse isolation” and we need space to separate the big kids from the babies and toddlers.
